Answers

1. How do I register my UTEC equipment with Sys-Link software?

Information on registering your software can be found here:
Registering Syslink Software.pdf

2. Can I get an operations manual for my (insert any RADIAN product here)?

Product manuals can be found here:
Radian Research Operations Manuals

3. What is the status of my equipment that is currently at RADIAN for recalibration or repair?

RADIAN’s Technical Support Team will be happy to provide a status update for your equipment. Just contact us via phone at (765)449-5500 or e-mail at radian@radianresearch.com, and have your RMA number ready.

4. How can I return my equipment to RADIAN for recalibration or repair?

RADIAN’s Customer Support Team will be happy to provide an RMA number, pricing information, and shipping procedures for your recalibration or repair. Just contact us via phone at (765)449-5500 or e-mail at radian@radianresearch.com

5. Can I purchase a 5800?

The 5800 has been discontinued. It is a 25 year old design with many parts obsolescence problems and has limitations with the test voltage VA and accuracy that are not practical to upgrade to meet the demand of today’s meters.

6. What software is available for the 5800?

Radian Research can provides the last release of RFL’s original DOS software (ver1.6.3). The DOS application can be used with Windows through XP but has some challenges with configuration. The DOS application can be used with all 5800 variations. Contact Technical Support at 765 449-5500 or e-mail at radian@radianresearch.com for more information.

Radian Research also provides Syslink which is a Windows application. Syslink is a more automated testing platform and installs and configures in Windows 2000 and XP better than DOS, but it requires the firmware that UTEC developed and original RFL 5800 have to be upgraded for this. Syslink is in a transition phase and we do NOT recommend this upgrade.
Watthour Engineering and Aclara offer third party software for the 5800 as well.

7. Are parts or service available for the 5800?

UTEC and Radian versions of the 5800 will have parts available as long as we can provide them and do not presently have any foreseeable unavailable components, but many parts are in “last time buy” status this year. The original RFL optics system has many components that are no longer available through Radian Research. We recommend servicing 5800’s in the field and recommend Accurate Calibration Services for most service. Call Technical Support @ 765 449-5500 for more information.

8. What is the current version of Syslink?

Syslink now consists of two components. The testing application current version is 3.1.7. The Report Generator version is 3.1.23. Registered users can upgrade at no charge. Call Technical Support @ 765 449-5500 for more information

9. Test Board Accuracy Certification

Test Board Instructions for Radian Research/UTEC 5800, 62x
Run CD: Syslink, Accuracy Certification Program.exe
Follow instructions from program.

17. What are the VA limits of my 62X Series Test Boards?

Voltage Axis with Turtle Buster option installed: 160VA
Voltage Axis with Turtle Buster option not installed: 160VA
Current Axis: 0.7V max / 35VA per phase

19. What are the differences between the PCA-Link and USB-Link Data Transfer Software and Adaptors?

Both the PCA Link (Radian Part No. 100150) and the USB-LINK (Radian Part No. 100134) software/adaptors allow for data transfer from a RM-17 to a laptop or PC. However, they have much different feature sets. To ensure that the software meets your particular application, care should be taken when selecting and ordering one of these two options.

The PCA Link Interface includes both an Interface Adaptor and the Data Transfer Software. This application is feature rich, and allows for two-way communication with the RM-17. The PCA Link software not only allows for simple uploading of test results from the RM-17 to a laptop or computer, but also device and test sequence configuration from the PC to the RM-17’s handheld. However, this interface is limited for use with laptops and PC’s equipped with a RS-232 serial port.

Like the PCA Link, the USB-Link Interface includes both an Interface Adaptor and the Data Transfer Software. However, the USB-Link software only allows the user to upload test results from the RM-17’s handheld to a laptop or computer. It does not support device and test sequence configuration. The USB-Link adaptor uses a USB connection, not a serial port.
